Days of Respect

How I would love to live in the days where respect, love of country and freedom rang out. I know that life wasn't perfect back then, but most people had respect for each other and a respect for life that you just don't find these days.

Back in the day there weren't stupid lawsuits like we have today. You know the kind I'm talking about: Where your neighbor sues you because he is offended by your American flag flying on the 4th of July. Or parents sue a school because their daughter got sent home for wearing something that showed more skin then a hooker. Or the overweight guy who sued McDonalds for making him fat. Its all craziness.

Back then you could walk down the street without hearing "F*** this" and "F*** that" coming from a car stereo. I don't care if that person listens to that type of music but WHY should I have to hear it?
Simply because there is no respect.
The pants hanging down to the knees that show off the male species boxers. C'mon.. Why do I have to see their darn underwear? Again, because there is no respect.

There wasn't such a thing as being politically incorrect; which is just another stupid rule to make sure people cant speak their own minds or cant say something that might indicate that we are different in some way.. Can you imagine back then, someone might have actually called a mobile home, a "mobile home", instead of a manufactured home? EGads!!! What were they thinking?
Or, my God, teachers actually used RED pen to mark papers. These days that might hurt the kids feelings so we cant use the red pen. The teachers cant give bad grades because it might make the kid have low self esteem. In my day, when I got a bad grade, it made me work harder for a good one.
It didn't give me low self esteem. It gave me the power to try to do better.

People knew we were all different and we had the FREEDOM to be different. If someone was proud of their country or fought for their country they could fly the American flag and no one got their poor little feelings hurt. People could put a Nativity scene in their front yard and it was quite okay. A Christmas tree was a Christmas tree and not a Holiday tree. Why? Because the Christmas tree is a symbol of CHRISTmas which is the time that Christians celebrate Christs birth. So why try to take that away from people?
No, I'm not a Christian. I'm a pagan and you know what? The fact that Christians celebrate Christs birth with a Christmas tree doesn't bother me one bit. I don't see why in the world it should bother anyone.

Way back in the days of Dinosaurs, at least it seems that long ago, we were allowed to say God Bless You. Heaven forbid you should do that today. You might get sued just because a person sneezed.

Lets not forget the government. I wont say much because:
1- This post would be too long
2- Everything I say would be considered politically incorrect and I might get sued by someone who got their feelings hurt because I don't think exactly like they do or like they think I should.

Anyway, do you remember this? "that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom--and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth."" HAH!!! It has perished. The government cares about money, money and more money. Screw the people! Shame on them.

I believe lack of respect is what has caused all this lunacy. We will probably never see a time that is respectful like in the past.
Lets bow our heads and weep for what this country has become; for what WE have become.

Well it looks as though I am going to be pretty busy in the coming weeks. I was told by the bank today that we will have to move out by the second week of March so that means I have to start packing AND finding a place to live.

I probably wont have a lot of time for art or posting to my blog but I will give it my best shot. But just to keep you happy for the moment here is my newest stuff.

Found My Camera

I had lost my camera and it finally decided to peek through a pile of papers and show itself to me. While it was being so friendly I decided to get a few pictures of my newest journal pages and a couple of Little Miss Trouble...

Here's Little Miss giving me THE look that says "If you pick up any art supplies I will kill you"...

She is the Queen of ignoring me. Here's the proof.

This is a spread about me. How I'm like a flower child who wants nothing but love, peace, beauty and kindness around me.

I found this poem in an old magazine and loved it so much I had to make a spread with it. The poem reminds me so much of me and my hubby. After 15 years of marriage we love each other like newlyweds still.

This is a page for my art journal group. We were supposed to put wings on something that doesn't normally have wings.

I liked the challenge so much I made two pages. This one is all about the power of words. There's that flower child in me coming out again.

I'm going to say one more time what a fantastic course this was. Its not about the art so you wont learn techniques or anything like that but if anyone decides to take Stephanies next Truth Project course, you will find love, understanding and healing from past wounds.

This one is about the word I chose to represent me in 2012; ACCEPTANCE... I will learn to accept myself as I am, accept others as they are and accept life and all that it holds for me. I used a bunch of positive quotes for the pages.

This is my inner self/my higher self.... She loves to dance to her own music. She's confident, light hearted and free.

Charms Galore

My hubby bought me a charm bracelet/watch for Christmas and a woman in my journaling group wanted pictures so here they are... Not only do you get to see my lovely new watch you can see my pretty new nails and my bling which I can never get enough of.

On another subject: Do you know the best kind of sandwich to have?
One that you have to eat with a fork!

This monster is made with Ezekial Bread, lettuce, spinach, red onions, black olives, green peppers, dill pickles, provolone cheese and mustard. After making it up I threw it in the microwave to melt the cheese and OMG it was soooooo good and healthy. Cant beat that.

My housework is done and lunch is out of the way which means I'm free to play the rest of the day.
Later on I'm making vegetarian "Big Macs" for dinner and then out to buy a desk. Its a good day.

2012 Here I Come

I've been cleaning and getting organized for the new year. I do this every January. Its sort of like spring cleaning with a couple differences...
1- Its not spring so thats a big difference
2- My biggest focus is finances so I make sure to clean out the old receipts and other paperwork that has to be saved, put them in a manilla envelope and then I put them into the safe. Then I clean my file box to make sure all the file folders are right for this year and in alphabetical order. I put a new register into my checkbook, clean out my Quicken and start off clean and ready to make a big difference.

Yesterday I cleaned and organized the rest of the house. There wasn't too much to do because I'm always cleaning or organizing. I'm a bit obsessive about being organized. But yet I managed to lose the watch that hubby got me for Christmas. It must be in my nest since that's the only room I haven't organized yet.
The big change in the house is the exercise room. I set it up where our dining room would normally be. The new treadmill should be arriving any day now. We wont have any excuse except laziness for not exercising.

I came up with some art goals for 2012... Here they are:

1- Make an altered book

2- Paint on Canvas

3- Finish art courses that are on my computer

4- Learn to draw human figures

5- Use my sewing machine

6- Make an art doll with clay and/or a clay sculpture (chubby)

7- Start working on my art journaling online course (Talk to other online artists for advice on starting and advertising a course)

8- Buy a video camera and tripod for making youtube videos. Get a tripod that I can mount overhead, looking over my shoulder.

9- Get separate journals for groups, my new journaling course, songs and (I forget but I had one more)

10- Paint my big beautiful nude self (This is a challenge to myself for learning body acceptance)

Now its time to balance my checkbook and go shopping. My kid and I are trading computers. He has a desktop and I have a laptop so now I need to go get a desk. You know what that means???? MORE drawers for organizing. YAY!!!!!!

Here's what came out of my nest today:

Well okay, this one didn't come out of my nest but it should have. Isn't it beautiful? This is my sons Christmas present. He hates glitter so I had to make sure to spray glitter all over it. LOL

Every year I give my son a Christmas ornament that has to do with his life for the year. This years theme is "Always Broke"... This is the center piece of the ornament.

This is the front and back of the tag that hangs from the money.

And this is the whole ornament. Yes, its an odd ornament but it isnt half as strange as some of them he's gotten.

The following four pictures are ATCs I did for a Black and White Swap in ATC Fun. There's a bit of a glare because I took the pictures after they were in the sleeves and I was too lazy to take them out.

This one is Puppy Love, also done for ATC Fun.

And lastly, a journal page that I'm making for the Truth Project. It looks so good to me now that I wanted to get a picture just in case I mess it up.

That's it from me for a few days. I'm going out of town tomorrow for Christmas...

We gave her money for Christmas to help pay for her trip to Hawaii but I didn't want to just give her money. So I made her a Christmas Lei and added the money to it.

My mailbox and porch have been rolling in the goodies the last few days... Wanna see?

Early this morning I saw these boxes sitting on my porch. WOOHOO, its play time....

What was in the boxes? A huge easel, a large canvas, acrylic paints, Golden mediums, a palette and so much more. Here's my new painting area in my nest. I had to rearrange the room just for this. Isn't it exciting? I'm going to paint!

I've written before that I joined the Scraps of Darkness monthly kit club.
OMG!!!! I am so happy with everything that I've been getting from them. Below are some pictures of what I received in the newest kit along with some goodies I bought with my gift certificate. I'm telling you, if you are a scrapbooker, art journaler or mixed media artist you cannot go wromg with these kits.

Spider Energy
Weaving Your Life

The feminine energy of spiders reminds us that we have the ability to weave our lives into strong beautiful works of art.

We may not realize that the sight of a spider's web glistening in the sun, the beads of morning dew catching the light to shine like diamonds on an intricate necklace, may carry a message for us. Their beauty belies their strength because though they are spun from thin strands of silk, they can hold the weight of the dew and capture nourishment in their nets as well. This paints an accurate picture of the traits of the weaver, the spider. Their feminine energy reminds us that we have the ability to weave our lives into strong, useful, and beautiful works of art. Though people may have an instinctive fear response to spiders, we can look beyond the physical instinct to understand the spiritual message they may be bringing us.

Among the various Native American traditions, spider medicine has been known to represent creativity. Her eight legs represent the four winds of change and the four directions on the medicine wheel, while her body is in the shape of the infinity symbol, which represents infinite possibilities. Spider was said to have woven the alphabet, creating the means for people to communicate and record their history through language. Just like the Greek myth of the Fates, three women who weave the tapestry of life, spiders are said to weave the creative forces that bring forth the intricately symmetrical patterns of our lives.

So if a spider has wandered into your line of sight, she may be bringing you one of several messages. She could be reminding you of the infinite possibilities you can draw from to create your life. Perhaps her message is to check your email or "the Web" to see if communication you sent has captured something. You might even want to refer to old journals to look for patterns recorded in your personal history. As spider weaves her web, you too can weave your reality and your future. Her medicine could be reminding you that as the creator of your life you need to have the courage to reach out and create your own intricately beautiful and strong tomorrows. If you don't pay attention, spider may feel the need to bite you to get your attention. If this happens, investigate what that part of the body represents to gain further information about your message from spider medicine.

A Few Journal Pages and a Fish

Here are three of my latest journal pages..

This is the Gratitude page I made for The Truth Project .... Its nice to be looking at some good things in life for the workshop. I LOVE the background on these pages but still need lots of practice making faces. I found out that I hate working with watercolors. Give me acrylics any day!

This one was done for my journaling group. Its called "Countdown" because we had to use:
5 Colors
4 Embellishments
3 Ribbons
2 Stickers
1 Picture
0 Tools

I cheated and used a pen to write the date and to highlight the scalloped papers (Bad Me) but everything else was put on the page with my bare hands.

This is another one for my journal group. I got the idea from a page that Pam Carriker recently uploaded on her blog.
I wish I had half of her talent.
Funny thing about this page is when I went to take the picture I found that I had made it upside down from all the other pages,. Oops.

Finally this is a board book page I made for a RR I'm in....

More Catching Up

Oh why, oh why, cant I be one of those people who update their blog every day or two instead of adding a zillion things at once? Oh well, I guess that's just who I am.

Here's my newest art:

This journal spread is for the Truth Project. It shows that I am chained to my past but I look towards a happier future. This is my favorite page out of the course. And let me say again, this course is awesome. If you have any emotional baggage that you would like to work through, Stephanie is the person to help.

This page was done for my Dark Journals group. Can you tell I really like the tree stencil since I used it on both this page and the one above? I just got the stencil the other day and I'm so happy I bought it. I LOVE trees and I LOVE stencils so what could be better? Well okay, a gajillion dollars for more supplies and a bigger room would be better then a tree stencil. I have three stencils and I am a stencil Junkie. I LOVE them and need more.

This is a tag I did for the Tim Holtz 12 days of Christmas tags. Day one and yes, this is the only one I have finished.

Now for swaps... All of these ATCs were done for various swaps in ATC_Fun.

And finally, this ATC was done for a swap in ATC Fun but then I looked at the directions and saw I had to make three ATCs, not one... So this baby is all mine .Isn't she beautiful????

Okay, I'm all caught up on the blog again. But I'm still a bit behind in some of my art projects. I guess that means I'll have another post soon with more catching up art.

The Truth Project

I'm in an art journaling course that is more about finding our own truth then it is about art journals. The art journal is just the path we take to get to our truth.

I've had a gazillion years of therapy and figured that this course would be pretty easy for me. What a shock it was to my system when feelings started coming up that I never knew I had.

I have cried a lot during this course but at the same time I have lowered some of my defenses. I feel more deeply then I did before. I am more open to love. And I am more open to pain. That might sound like a bad thing but when you swallow so much pain through your life, it actually feels pretty good to be able to feel it, deal with and then let it go.

I've been depressed during this course and have spent too many hours in bed. But I've also felt lighter now that some of this pain that I've hidden from is finally coming to the surface.

And you know what's really great? The leader of this amazing course.
Stephanie is such a wonderful, loving woman. She's like a bright light shining in a room full of deep, dark secrets.. She's a person you dont mind spilling your soul in front of. You know that when you're hurting she will be there to wrap her cyber arms around you and make you feel that you're okay. She helps you feel loved and perfect just the way you are instead of broken. I've never met her personally or talked to her on the phone but I know she is the type of woman I would be honored to have as a personal friend.

As I was working on the second page the emotions took over and I let it all out.

This is just a page as a response to the previous pages. My own question to myself

This past week we were to do a page of a memory. Not the worst memory but not the best one .Inside the envelope there will be a letter that I write to the little girl I used to be.

Another Long Catch Up Post

Lately, not only have I not been blogging but I also havent been uploading my artwork anywhere. Not good... So let me take the time now to get some work uploaded. There will be more then one post about it since some of the artwork is from a course I'm taking.....

This first one is an ATC for a lottery in ATC Fun. The theme is Winter Wonderland.

Every now and then Jeannie does a mystery swap in ATC Fun. She sends us all an item to make an ATC with but we dont know what it is until we get it. This month we used the mystery item and made another ATC with the card she mailed them in. This is the one made with the card.

This one was made with the mystery item. She sent a couple fall leaves. I dipped mine in Utee and shaped them. They're so cool I have to make one for myself.

We're doing Secret Santa in ATC Fun and this is the canvas I made for my partner. Each package is wrapped and has ribbon wrapped around it. The candy canes are plastic and the hanger is a metal present. The canvas is 3D because the presents stick out from it. I think its cool. I hope she likes it.

Now we jump into the Dark Journal Challenge group. This page was made using a poem I wrote many years ago called "The Beast Within"... The first page the door is shut but in the second page the door is open and the beast is coming inside.
If you're wondering what the beast is that I wrote about: Its depression. I picture my depression, not as an emotion, but as a live creature trying to steal my life.
Personally I love this page.

Over in the Journal Challenges group we had to make a page about being Queen. I consider myself to be the Queen of Ravens so my page had to show that. What you cant see is how the gold shimmers. I used a purple background since I am now royalty. LOL

Finally in the Journal Challenge group we had to make a page with the journaling in a wavy line of some sort. Mine is about nature and how it watches over the generations of people.

Okay, that's it for this post. The next one will have a lot more emotional pages. So if you dont like dark pages, hurt feelings or swearing you might want to skip it.

Some New Art - I've Been Busy :-)

She does some amazing intuitive paintings and I really wanted to try it myself. This is what I came up with. It isn't finished yet but I thought I would show the background before I finished it. I should have taken a picture before I painted the stone walls but I didn't have my camera with me and I was too lazy to go downstairs and get it.

This is a journal page I made using a copy of a journal page that Cindy, a member of my Journal Challenges group, made about me. I gave her some extra homework in the group and she came up with a great page.

These are the ATC dolls I made for a swap in ATC Fun. The bodies are made from ATCs but once I cut out their shape they no longer looked like ATCs so I decided each doll should have their own ATC to show off.

This is a turkey I made for another swap in ATC fun.

I have a gorgeous ATC to upload but I'm not allowed to for another few days. I think its one of the best ATCs I've ever made.

I haven't been in my room this week and you know that means art withdrawals. So I said NO to housework today and went to my nest. It was a great day in there.

Next I did a journal page for this weeks challenge over at Journal Challenges. The theme was Dance with color. I found a picture in a magazine with no color in it and that inspired this page.

The background was made with plastic wrap that I had just pulled off a painting I started. That will be uploaded when I'm done with it. Hopefully next week. This is my first painting so it will take awhile.

I also finished another journal page but the glitter is still drying so I cant upload that today.

Journal Pages & ATCs

This weeks challenge in my journal group was to make two pages about Joy. One page had to be filled up and the other page had to be very simple. Here are the two I did. I still need a lot of practice on drawing and painting faces but at lease they no longer look like aliens like they used to. LOL

This first one says "Joy is being true to yourself." then at the bottom it says that I still don't do that and that I let my weight stop me from being who I want to be. It also says that "Deep inside I am RAEVEN. But on the outside I'm just tami"... Yes, I have my name spelled with all small letters because I feel insignificant.

This one says "When the wind blows through my hair I feel pure Joy dancing in my heart. Wind brings my soul to life'....

Over in ATC Fun I joined a swap with the theme "Games". So I made my ATCs into game pieces. I like the way they turned out.

I started a new yahoo group for us art jouranlers who also want to visit the darker side of life.
The challenges and discussions will be about Demons, Darkness, Taboo, Death, Religion, Sex, etc, etc....
This is one of those groups where just about anything goes in our art. We will be free to post things we wouldn't normally share. We will finally have a place to share our darker side without feeling like outcasts.

This is my latest journal page for the Journal Challenge group. We had to take a brief quiz to see which mythological creature we are and I came out as a Pegasus.

This is an ATC I did for the monthly lottery at ATC Fun. The theme was Ravens. I really hope I win this month since I go by the name Raeven online.
